PRL ↔ grains
Convert between PRL and its smallest unit, exactly
What it does
Type an amount in PRL or in grains and the other updates. The eight places after the decimal point are drawn as slots, each labeled with how many grains it is worth.
How to read it
- 1 PRL = 100,000,000 grains. The first decimal place is 10,000,000 grains; the eighth is a single grain.
- A ninth decimal place would be smaller than one grain, which doesn’t exist, so the tool refuses it.
- Inside a transaction, amounts are always stored in grains: an 8-byte whole number, little-endian. PRL with a decimal point is only for people.
Pearl specifics
- The grain is Pearl’s version of Bitcoin’s satoshi, with the same 10⁸ ratio.
- Dust: the relay rules refuse Taproot and P2MR outputs worth less than 333 grains, because creating and spending one would cost more than a third of its value at the minimum fee rate. OP_RETURN outputs are exempt.
- The total supply is 2,100,000,000 PRL (2.1 × 10¹⁷ grains). Block 1 paid 3,229.64134063 PRL, and the reward shrinks a little with every block after it.
Under the hood
Runs entirely in your browser. Amounts stay as BigInt from start to finish, so there is no floating-point
rounding: src/lib/format.ts formats them, and its unit tests check exact output down to the last grain.
