The technical guide to Pearl

Pearl, explained from the grain up.

Pearl vs Bitcoin

Same roots, different engine.

Pearl reuses Bitcoin's hashes, Merkle trees and signatures. Then it changes the parts that matter: how blocks are mined, how often, and what a header holds.

All 16 differences
Topic Bitcoin Pearl Explained in
Proof of work Guess nonces until a SHA-256 hash is low enough Multiply matrices; the work becomes lottery tickets, proven with a zero-knowledge certificate
Block header 80 bytes, ends with a 4-byte nonce 108 bytes, ends with a 32-byte ProofCommitment, no nonce
What beats the target The block hash itself A BLAKE3 ticket inside the certificate; the block hash looks random
Block interval 10 minutes 194 seconds (3 min 14 s)
Difficulty adjustment Every 2,016 blocks (about two weeks) Every block (WTEMA, one-week time constant)
New coins Reward halves every 210,000 blocks Reward shrinks a little every block on a smooth curve
Total supply 21 million BTC (satoshis) 2.1 billion PRL (grains)
Addresses 1…, 3…, bc1q…, bc1p… prl1p… (Taproot) and prl1z… (P2MR) only

Touch the bytes

A real block header, all 108 bytes.

Hover or tab through the hex: each color is one field. No nonce at the end; a 32-byte ProofCommitment points at the mining certificate instead.

How pages are verified
  • Verified against v1.5.2

Every Pearl claim was checked in Pearl's source code at tag v1.5.2 and on the live chain. Where the whitepaper and the code disagree, the code wins.

  • Real mainnet bytes

Headers, transactions and certificates are real blocks, decoded at build time by the same parsers the tools use, and their hashes are checked.

  • Independent

Not affiliated with Pearl Research Labs. No tracking, no ads, no price talk. Educational content only.

  • Every page cites sources

Each page lists its sources and links the exact source files that implement it, so you can check anything yourself.
