Matrix multiplication

Every cell is one row times one column

Matrix multiplication

Each cell of C is one row of A times one column of B

B

A

C = A·B

Hover or focus any cell of C, or press Step, to see which row and column make it.

Multiply-accumulates 27/ 27 n³ = 3 × 3 × 3

Toy sizes Real jobs are thousands of rows wide. A Pearl GPU does exactly this, with at least 1,024 terms per cell and entries from −64 to 64, and every term is one multiply-accumulate.

What it does

A (blue) times B (violet) makes C. The matrices sit so that row i of A lines up with row i of C, and column j of B sits right above column j of C. Hover or focus any cell of C to see the dot product that makes it, term by term.

How to read it

  • Step adds one multiply-accumulate at a time: the lit cell of A times the lit cell of B, added to the running sum in C. Play walks the whole product.
  • The counter shows n³ multiply-accumulates for an n × n product: 27 for 3 × 3. Doubling n multiplies the work by 8.
  • Edit any number in A or B, or press Randomize, and C updates.

Pearl specifics

Pearl’s mining is exactly this operation at enormous scale: matrices thousands of rows wide, at least 1,024 terms per cell, entries from −64 to 64 (up to ±127 once the noise is added), run on GPUs. Pearl’s hashrate counts these multiply-accumulates.

Under the hood

Runs entirely in your browser. Products come from matMul in src/lib/miner.ts, the same function the toy miner uses, unit-tested through its exact denoising identity.
